If anyone wants a 6-hour archived radio anthology of James Brown to listen to, it's up over at WFMUThanks Sebz. It's NP in Krammville. He may have done more Christmas songs than almost anyone.

The local news affiliate just broke in with the news of Gerald Ford's death. Not that it's a laughing matter, but I have been anticipating this day ever since the first airing of my all-time favorite SNL sketch. ~s

I'd feel a lot better if his accomplices Cheney, Bush and Rumsfeld had been hanged as well.

"The first piece of music I ever performed publicly was a La Monte [Young] piece. That was in 1967 or '68. It was a repetitive piece, and it remains in my mind as one of my great musical experiences. It really is a cornerstone of everything I've done since." Brian Eno, 1981 http://home.cogeco.ca/~lamonteyoung/lamonteyoung.htm

Also (this weekend) Michael Brecker: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/news.php?id=12244Let's hope the "rule of 3" myth doesn't apply.

I always liked Brecker. Shame about both. "Everything comes in threes." Not so. In reality, everything comes in ones. Sometimes, when three ones come in a row, it seems like everything comes in threes.
By the way, in medieval times it was widely believed that everything came in twenty-sixes. They were wrong too. It just took them longer to notice a pattern.

Here's a quote from Molly Ivins that illustrates why I loved her so much:
In the early 1960s, she attended Smith College, got involved in the civil rights movement and was struck by the realization that she said creates all Southern liberals: "Once you figure out they are lying to you about race, you start to question everything."

I suspected that was coming. They said earlier this week that her cancer had come back with a vengeance. Molly was one of a kind, and one of the few reasons to be proud of being a Texan these days.

RIP Calvert DeForrest (aka Larry "Bud" Melman). It would be entirely appropriate (and pretty damn funny) if the first report on the afterlife and interview with God were Larry "Bud" Melman standing around giggling and stammering while a choir of angels stood there looking confused and God started to get impatient.
