Wow. That's the first I've heard of this whole thing, but the rhythm section alone will have me checking the concert prices. I'd been wondering what Jonesy was up to lately....

Oh man, lucky you!

If I paypal you some $ could you pick me up the CD please? I don't think it goes on general release for another couple of months. EDIT: Just re-read the date and see the gig is in November too, so never mind.

And since the gig's being recorded for Jazz on 3 (which I will definitely grab once it is broadcast) and "audience participation is compulsory" can you make a big, inappropriate CAT FOOD! cheer (or substitute of your choice) between songs for me? That sure sould give the concert recording a special touch.  Grin

I'll definitely go for that, and If I can snag any goodies - like a signed cd or anything, I'll do so and pass them on

You know what would make it even MORE awesome?  If you came to see them in Chicago, that's what.

(I know, I know...short notice, and you had to buy a bunch of new cars recently, and the dogs don't have very many frequent flier miles...I'm just sayin.')

It would be weird seeing such a Fuckin Metal show at the House of Blues, but I guess stranger things have happened....

Know what's more messed up, though? Ticketbastard has Between the Buried and Me listed as the headliners and Devin and Cynic as guests. Even weirder, at the Trocadero site BTB&M is the only name even listed. Clearly someone isn't doing their homework.

It IS weird, but the HoB is pretty much THE venue in Chicago for higher-profile metal acts.  (I mean, Slayer and Megadeth are scheduled to play the UIC Pavilion, and small-time local bands play a myriad of hole-in-the-wall bars, but if you're a medium sized national touring metal band like Opeth, Behemoth, Arch Enemy and/or Devin Townsend, it's the place.)  Which definitely causes some cognitive dissonance, as the HoB is pretty much the Disneyland of music venues, all sanitized and corporate and charging $9.50 for beers and whatnot, and the music is neither sanitized nor corporate.

However, as much as I dislike the HoB, it does have one thing going for it: (limited) seats for decrepit old hags like me.  I try to get there super-early to grab a spot.

Sad.

I saw John McLaughlin at the HoB, and I hated it (HoB).  Normally, I think smaller is better, but seeing John at the Chicago Theatre was actually much better.

Off to the album launch for the first album in 12 years from Sydney post-punk/indie veteran icons CROW tonight. It's their their first new album with this, the original 1986 line-up since 1993. Should be interesting...

Hear a sample track from the new platter at http://www.messandnoise.com/releases/2000557

The Melbourne International Jazz Festival is pulling out all the stops for 2010. Peter Brotzmann, Han Bennink, Charles Lloyd, Zakir Hussain etc etc etc etc...

A shame I found out about it three months after it happened. Undecided
