I *may* even be able to enrol directly in Masters (Transport and Logistics Management) due to career experience if I play my cards right.

And Transport & Logistics Management relates to Ethnomusicology how, exactly?

Never mind.  Just make sure to invite us all to the graduation party.

I wish I had an answer for that.  Tongue

Seriously though a friend of mine, who's enrolling in a Masters in Accounting with no prior academic experience, terms this *potential* direct to Masters enrolment based on career experience option as the "old fart's clause". It has nothing at all to do with prior academic record (or lack thereof).

Whoah! I haven't even decided if I want to enrol yet!

But if it does happen, I want that Julie Tippetts shaped cake you mentioned elsewhere.

Funny given our discussion here that Fripp posted this today at DGMLive from his diary (Jan. 11):

"Alex is a Happy Boy because as Plumber, Drummer, Engineer & Cheesecake Manufacturer, he will always have employment. Note, Alex does not have a degree in Media Studies, he has qualifications as a Plumber. That is, Alex has practical expertise."

And then there was this exchange today as I went to the front of the room for a Media Research class - Student: I guess since you're setting there you're the professor. Me: No I'm just a flunkie. I have enough education to be a professor, but we can't all be professors.

Of course it would be nice to have a job where I got to exercise some of my abilities besides being dependable.

The BBC did an excellent piece on Alex Harvey. Hang in there past the news, it's worth it: http://tinyurl.com/2md93n

One Beno has a nice video interview from the Beeb re: 77 Million here:

I like the idea but I'm not sure how much I value randomly generated art. I have the tendency to want to "save" the best random combinations. The idea that there are so many combinations that it would take 450 years to see a repeat is somehow too random for my tastes.

On the other hand, the Brain would probably say that no art is the same twice anyway. No two concerts are exactly the same, and even the recording of a gig isn't the same experience as the gig itself etc. Every time you experience something, you're not quite the same person....

That's true, although most bands come close enough, which I find boring.

I greatly value improvisation (you all probably all gathered that by now), but I question how much of it is really random.  Musicians, painters, writers ... if they're aware of their craft they have SOME idea what will happen before they do it.

Eno's "random" works are not taken from random samples.  If you hear two recordings from different times they will sound very similar (albeit not exactly the same).
